Sanctuary is still on SyFy Friday night. I could not find any listings for it when I wrote my
previous column, but my DVR caught it, so I didn't miss any episodes. I particularly like the character of Nicola Tesla.
I finally got around to watching the Battlestar Galactica direct to DVD movie The Plan. I
was bored. The story retells the second Cylon war from the Cylon point of view. The stars of the series,
Starbuck and Apollo, only appear in film we've already seen (or possibly out takes). The only non-Cylon star
who actually appears in a few new scenes is Edward James Olmos, who directed. We do get new footage of all
of the Cylons, including the Final Five, except Number Three and Number Seven. I assume Lucy Lawless,
who played Number Three, was unavailable. And, according to series creator Ronald D. Moore, Number Seven
was never intended to be more than a placeholder to fix a numbering error.
The problem is that we know what is going to happen, so there is really no plot, just the doubtful pleasure
of seeing the same events from a different perspective. Some plot holes are filled in -- but I was too far
away from the original to care. There were a few effective moments, especially with Number One, played
by Dean Stockwell. But this is mainly for BSG completists.
My November column was late and, as I mentioned above, did not include my favorite show, Sanctuary,
in this listings, so here is what is on in the second half of November.
