New Arrivals
compiled by Neil Walsh

New and forthcoming books this fall include new works from Paul Kearney, Neal Stephenson, Timothy Zahn, Piers Anthony, Stephen R. Donaldson, Alison Baird, David & Leigh Eddings, Gene Wolfe, and many others.

And here's a book from by own recent reading that I'd like to recommend:

  • Eastern Standard Tribe by Cory Doctorow (Tor, hc, 224 pages, March 2004, USA & Canada)
On the gadgetry-appreciation spectrum, I probably rate closer to Luddite than technophile. But I can't deny the vision of this novel seems entirely plausible, considering today's level of technology and its current rate of advancement. Taking technogeekdom only to the very next level, Doctorow stops short of the cyberpunk fantastical. The writing is refreshingly lissom, and the characterization is spot on.
For more about the story, check out Greg Johnson's review, linked below.
