Stealing Magic Stealing Magic by Tanya Huff
reviewed by David Hebblethwaite
This short story collection is really two collections, one telling of the wizard Magdalene, the other chronicling the adventures of the thief Terazin. The two "books" are bound back-to-back in a single volume. The telling is bright and breezy (a world away from the stilted, formal prose of so much fantasy of that ilk), the tone generally light; as the author writes in the afterword, "there should always be room for a few laughs."

Tanya Huff fans will want this book, plain and simple. Not only are the stories good, the packaging is brilliant. The book is bound like an old Ace double -- one side for the Terazin stories, and one for the Magdalene stories -- making for a great bi-directional read, with double cover art by David Willicome that's both handsome and suitable to the stories.

Smoke and Shadows Smoke and Shadows by Tanya Huff

For Tony, his job as a production assistant for the Vancouver based TV show "Darkest Night" is a bit of an irony. The show is about a vampire detective, and he, himself, has actually shared a life, bed and vein with a vampire who often has to act as a detective. Because of his association with Henry Fitzroy, he's seen some pretty terrible and scary things, but nothing he's faced yet can match the shadows that seem to move of their own accord.

The Second Summoning The Second Summoning by Tanya Huff

This direct sequel to Summon the Keeper follows the continuing adventures of the Keeper (one responsible for keeping Hell from manifesting on earth) Claire Hansen, her powerful but irresponsible younger sister Diana, her cleaning-obsessed Newfoundland boyfriend Dean, and her sarcastic talking cat Austin. This time they battle demented, animated statues of storybook characters; a ghost with bleached blonde hair; subway demons; and an actualized angel and his demon opposite -- both fully formed teenagers with all the baggage that goes along with it.

Wizard of the Grove Wizard of the Grove by Tanya Huff
reviewed by Robert Francis
It's set in a world which has recovered from, but not forgotten, a cataclysm that took place a thousand years earlier. The people still tell stories of the days when the wizards, strove for supremacy amongst themselves in a world where no other mortal creature had the will or the power to challenge them.

Having a hole to Hell in your basement isn't so bad. You get to heat your house for free, and be entertained by Hell's frustrated attempts at stand-up comedy. If you want to have a good chuckle and keep yourself amused while sitting on the beach, then pick up this gem of a book.
