Transmetropolitan
Welcome to The City. Enjoy your stay and try to survive.
From author Warren Ellis and artist Darick Robertson there's the acclaimed and multiple award-winning Transmetropolitan,
published by DC's Vertigo imprint, a decadent future that puts Blade Runner to shame is the backdrop to shocking
social satires. Author and series have earned praise from Bruce Sterling and Michael Moorcock, among other. Transmet
easily stands along side works such as Norman Spinrad's Bug Jack Barron, John Brunner's Stand On Zanzibar, and Alfred
Bester's The Demolished Man
The author's site can be found in the column to the left, and the artist's at the hyperlink above. For those who can't
resist a glimpse of these graphic novels' future, there's a preview of a recent issue of the monthly serialization
at http://www.dccomics.com/bnw/jancolor/tmet42/a.htm
The Magic of Aria
It's just a Greenwhich Village curio shop and the owner a young confident woman, right? Appearances are just a
veneer. The truth is ancient and magical as myths today's world can no longer believe. But there are things even myths
fear. The Magic of Aria by writer Brian Holguin & artist Jay Anacleto is beautiful, and an excellent
choice for fans of urban fantasy.
More info and images can be found at publisher Avalon Studios site
http://www.avaloncomics.com. And a preview of the next story
arc at http://www.haberlin.com/aria, with new artist David Yardin.
Greg Bear
Here are some suggestions from leading hard SF author Greg Bear:
"I recommend Scott McCloud and Zot. Also an old favourite, Watchmen. I've come
to appreciate a small segment of Anime, as well -- Wings of Honneamise, Kiki's Delivery Service,
Laputa, and Princess Mononoke."
For more info on these check out:
Scott McCloud's site link can be found in the Creators' section to the left.
Zot has recently revived as an online strip at Comic Book Resources (see left).
Read a review of Alan Moore's & Dave Gibbons' Hugo award-winning
Watchmen.
