I read this when it was only published on the author's website. I'm glad he found a publisher, since I thought it was a book that definitely deserved to see print. It's a light read, but clever and humorous. A Hollywood agent gets the gig of a lifetime: he has been contacted by an alien species (horrible to look at, by human standards) in order to arrange to introduce them to humanity.
Song of Kali by Dan Simmons
Fantasy Masterworks #44, Gollancz (trade, 311 pages)
Publication date: 10 March 2005, UK
His first novel and winner of the 1986 World Fantasy Award. This was also the first Dan Simmons novel I read, and I've been a fan ever since. Excellent read. Truly horrifying. Even all these years later, I still cringe in fear and feel a wave of nausea whenever someone mentions Calcutta.
